Break bread with: Rachel Khoo
Culinary creative, broadcaster, producer, TV presenter, food writer, cookbook author and wearer of many (stylish) hats, Rachel Khoo is a well-known voice in the world of food media (and Spaghetti Head’s former boss!). Find out what one food Rachel will never eat (again) and which comfort dishes she turns to after a long day on set.
Your go-to snack:
Cheese!
Your ultimate comfort dish(es):
A crusty baguette or a dense rye sourdough slathered with so much salted butter you can see your teeth marks. Assam laksa with its sweet-and-sour, spicy broth and properties that make you break into soup sweats afterwards – although nasi lemak comes in a close second, especially when it’s served with fried chicken like the one at Mei Mei London.
Your least favourite food-related word:
Soggy.
Your favourite food-related word:
Mouth-watering.
The cook(s) who inspires you most:
My Oma (Austrian grandma) and my mum.
Something you’ll never eat:
Boiled snails (slightly gritty from sand) with raw milk camembert baked on top. I ate this filming my first TV show. The dish had gone cold, so the cheese had congealed and gone rubbery.
What’s for dinner tonight?
Onion and cheese quiche and a green salad with a red vinegar shallot dressing.
